…….With a lot of planning, patience and perseverance.  Like everything in life, this is going to be a balancing act of money versus time; manual labor versus mechanization and our wish list versus constraints. And the constraints are many – permits, weather, our day jobs and the budget being only the major ones.

The land is a 55 minute drive from our house. Every weekend in the forseeable future is now going to be dedicated towards this work. We will drive up and down on both Saturdays and Sundays. Nighttime temperatures are already starting to drop. Once we get on a schedule, we will end up camping on the land for entire weekends including long 3 day weekends during Spring and Summer. Drinking water, food, tools and a gas powered generator will be taken to the land and brought back with us.  Once purchased, the tractor and chemical toilet will stay on the land. We will have to lock the tractor down and cover the tractor, toilet and any piles of building material with tarps. Our portable solar charger will charge our phones, USB powered camcorder and lights. The tractor, brush cutter and saw will be gas operated. Flammable items like gas tanks will be stored in an enclosed metal container on the land. We have splurged and purchased a Kelly Kettle kit for when we need to boil water and heat food or simply have a small warm fire.

We will be recording time lapse videos in the main work areas on the land and upload them with our blog updates.

In order to have a good understanding of our expenses, we are maintaining a separate bank account and credit card which will be funded periodically by both of us. Our actual expenses will be periodically updated in our project tracking spreadsheet that can be viewed here.
